10000 times fail to reduce consumption of the storage units

The industry is working in parallel in many research focused on significantly increasing the capacity of current drives and solid ( AAMR , SMR, HAMR , Patterned Media , 3D Towers , among others) as well as alternative means as storage units atomic , uranium , bacterial and even DNA .

While many of the technologies referred to ensure that the storage capacity of the various media and existing units will continue to grow in the following years, it is gratifying to know that there are also research focused on dramatically reduce storage units.

Geoffrey Beach and a team of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of (MIT) have developed a very thin ferromagnetic films (composed of an alloy of tantalum), capable of reversing the polarity (or magnetic domain) of the patterns in the platinum plate upon application of electricity.

Magnetic storage media based on the arrangement of the magnetic domains (positive “1″ / negative “0″), to which is applied to rearrange them in a controlled manner, making it possible to store information.

This new film, according to their energy developers has 10,000 times higher than conventionally used methods, in addition to being fully compatible with existing manufacturing processes, making possible the construction of hard drives and solid with high data density and very low consumption.

It is expected that this new technology comes soon to storage units for consumers.
