AMD launches FirePro S-Series: The new FireStream

A few days ago announced it would consolidate its product lines focused on workstations, servers and (High Performance Computing), unchecking and consolidating them under the brand FirePro .

AMD offers a wide variety of video cards FirePro W-Series , based on its architecture (GCN), but although interesting products do not meet the needs of users who demand segment with solutions for their HPC clusters.

AMD today announced the launch of its new line of passive FireStream accelerators (the “S” is for Stream or Server?), Which would become the direct successor of the late FireStream product line, and that the Like her sisters W-Series, are based on Graphics Core Next architecture.

Kernel-based Accelerator Pro Tahiti and its features are:

  • 6GB of GDDR5 memory running at 1375MHz ecc (5500MHz effective).
  • Memory Bus 384 bits.
  • Bandwidth of 240 GB/s.
  • 3.23 teraflops of power in single precision calculations.
  • 806 gigaflops (0.8 teraflops) power in double precision calculations.
  • Dual-slot passive cooling.
  • MSRP of $2500.

FirePro S7000
Core-based accelerator Pitcairn XT. Its specifications are:

  • 1280 shader processors (often still unknown).
  • 80 texture units.
  • 32 rendering units (ROPs).
  • 4GB of GDDR5 memory running at 1200MHz ECC (4800MHz effective).
  • Bus 256-bit memory.
  • Bandwidth of 154 GB/s.
  • 2.4 teraflops of power in single precision calculations.
  • 600 gigaflops (0.6 teraflops) power in double precision calculations.
  • Passive cooling monkey slot.
  • MSRP of $1250.

Both products will challenge the Tesla product line of Nvidia.
