Announces Applied Micro X-Gene SoC second generation
The SoC Applied Micro X-Gene of second generation are based on the second implementation of the ARM Cortex-A57 architecture (ARM armv8 or 64 bits), customized by Applied Micro to deliver higher performance per watt compared to X-Gene first generation.
Other enhancements in the new SoC Applied Micro X-Gene have second generation:
- Made with the manufacturing process to 28nm (X-Gene is first generation 40nm fabricated).
- 16 ARM Cortex-A57 cores (X-Gene possesses first-generation 8-core Cortex-A57).
- X-Gene Interconnect Fabric with support for up to 1024 cores (up to 128 cores in X-Gene first generation).
- Operating frequencies up to 3.0GHz (2.5GHz maximum X-Gene first generation).
One of the first customers announced by Applied Micro is Mitac International, which will use the new SoC Applied Micro X-Gene of second generation micro-server in its 7-Star, HP also announced it plans to offer Proliant servers based Moonshot X -Gene.
