Artists and intellectuals called on the Government of Ecuador to grant asylum to Assange

The signatures of Oliver Stone, Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky and Danny Glover are among the more than 6,000 people have so far signed an online petition to President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, seeking to grant to Julian Assange, the founder which is from last week at the Embassy of Ecuador in London.

The letter, which can be read on the website Just Foreign Policy , an independent organization that evaluates U.S. foreign policy, is still open to get more signatures , although a printed version would have been delivered to the Embassy of in about 4,000 signatures.

In this letter addressed to the Government of Rafael Correa explains a series of arguments which the parties believe that the denial of asylum requested by the controversial Australian journalist could endanger his life:

“We believe that if Mr. Assange is extradited to Sweden there is a good chance that once you are there to be imprisoned and then sent to the United States where he could face the death penalty.”

Ecuador’s Foreign Ministry confirmed through a statement on its Web site that received the letter signed by thousands, and added that they have received over 10 thousand emails with similar requests.

Required at the station

To all these, the London Metropolitan Police has today delivered a letter to the Embassy of Ecuador in London, where Assange ask to appear at the police station, according to anonymous sources said the news agency EFE.

Obviously the reporter can not get out of the Embassy of Ecuador and presented at the police station because he would be arrested for violating his probation (to seek asylum), but that is not present for the appointment you have scheduled a new act would against the conditions imposed on him to let him go … Anyway, whatever he does is score points against their situation.

In my view, without having to resort to wisdom, I think the best thing to do is stay Assange the Ecuadorian Embassy until international pressure to take effect and finally granted political asylum you have requested, which I particularly will happen soon … Do your gambling?
