ASMedia controller chips developed for a high-speed USB 3.5

According to company president Lin Chewei, Tecnology is developing 3.5 host and device chips for this, which will be available in 2014.

These chips will achieve speeds up to 10 Gb / s, at a price much more affordable than Intel’s Thunderbolt. Lin added that “USB 3.5 controller chips application will have many opportunities in the market, especially in SSDs.”

The company will soon begin to offer samples. The manufacturing will be done by TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) using a 85 nm process.

TSMC is the company’s largest semiconductor foundry in the world, with headquarters and main operations in scientific and industrial park in Hsinchu, Taiwan.
