ASMedia USB 3.0 vs. USB 3.0 Intel Panther Point

ASMedia USB 3.0 vs. USB 3.0 Intel Panther Point

In early April this year, officially launched its new 7-Series chipsets “Panther Point” , chipsets to replace the old 6-series “Cougar Point” and that its main new features bring an controller.

Interestingly many motherboard manufacturers even though Intel chipsets have four outputs 7 Series USB 3.0 (and 10 USB 2.0) USB 3.0 drivers further include dedicated ASMedia, Etrontech and other manufacturers. Those OCWorkbench ASRock motherboard tested a Z77 Fatal1ty Professional-M, which includes a USB 3.0 controller also USB 3.0 controller integrated Intel Z77. Here the results:

Test CrystalDiskMark in ASMedia USB 3.0 port.

The USB 3.0 controller ASMedia pulverized Intel USB 3.0 driver 4.88X showing sequential read operations, 3.92X in sequential write, and overcoming it in the rest of the evidence.

They tested several versions of Intel’s USB 3.0 controller without affecting the results. It remains unclear whether the poor performance of Intel USB 3.0 driver (just above the performance of USB 2.0 drivers ) is caused by a driver problem or other cause not yet revealed.

We will be aware of this issue.
