Astronomers discover twin galaxies of the Milky Way
A group of astronomers announced the discovery of two galaxies that are virtually identical to ours. According to these scientists, spiral galaxies, like the Milky Way, are rare, but the twins that have just recently discovered also share other characteristics similar to the galaxy where we live.
Both galaxies include their own “satellite galaxies” that are quite similar to our Large Magellanic Cloud. According to scientists, about 3% of the galaxies in the Universe (known) are similar to the Milky Way and also have accompanying galaxies, are very rare.
According to research, only 14 galaxies similar to ours and only two that have just recently discovered are virtually identical. Scientists used data from the Galaxy & Mass survey maps showing nearly 340,000 galaxies.
As a curiosity, the same astronomers claim that the Magellanic Clouds will not exist forever, as one researcher clusters remain for one or two billion years and then disappear.
