Ballmer: Surface is a “reference design”
Microsoft does not want to hurt his former business partners, manufacturers of PCs So Steve Ballmer said that the Surface is a “reference design” for manufacturers to show what can be done. The idea is not to compete, but inspirational.
“Surface is just one design point. Have a distinctive place in the broad ecosystem of Windows. And the importance of the thousands of partners we have, who design and produce computers with windows will not diminish. We have a common goal with our manufacturing partners to bring a variety of solutions, Windows PCs, phones, tablets, servers on the market. And we seek to have an impressive range of devices. Thus, every consumer, every company can say, ‘I have the perfect PC for me,’ “Ballmer said during the conference of partners took place in Canada.
Some manufacturers do not have welcomed the Surface in the first instance – for example in Acer predicted its failure – so that the company has had to go out and try to maintain a good relationship with those who have Windows PCs for years.
