Curious Review: Radeon HD 7970 tested on a Core 2 Duo E8400

Curious Review: Radeon HD 7970 tested on a Core 2 Duo E8400

A few months ago we received an unusual but interesting of a video card GeForce GTX 680 tested with an old team-based Pentium E6500 CPU overclocked to 3.74GHz . Since we get a review OCaholic very similar, but this time testing a video card based on hd 7970 GPU.

The test kit is based on the following configuration:

  • Core 2 E8400 (3.0GHz).
  • Motherboard ASUS Rampage Formula X48.
  • 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR2-1066 GT.
  • Video card xfx Radeon HD 7970 dd (Double Disipation).
  • Samsung 128GB SSD 830.
  • Power Supply Seasonic SS-1000XP Patinum 1000W.

Here some of the test:

Interestingly GPU dependent was not observed any loss of of the old equipment compared with other existing equipment based on Intel Core i7-3770K, AMD and AMD FX-8150 FX-4170, including such games we can mention Alien vs Predator and STALKER Call of Pripyat, in other games very CPU-dependent IPC as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and StarCraft II simply the old E8400 can not keep up.

We recommend reviewing the full review OCaholic.
