Five reasons why it's worth to overclock

Every time I build teams wonder I always ask back if you plan to overclock, because it greatly affects the choice of pieces to choose from. A lot of people do not care, because by this budget, knowledge, and use of equipment likely to prevent it. But others are merely interested in improving your PC performance substantially.

In fact, if they will end up with a team somewhat faster than the factory, are willing to release some more tickets so to do, but not all scenarios are equal, so that we give you five reasons to see if it the penalty or not to overclock, or in other words, increasing hardware performance beyond what is established from the outset.

A. – When the performance increase is remarkable

Another big reason, but often only taken into account when the team is passing the dreaded field “I need an update.” Put another way, when there is money to fund a deposit update or change of equipment at short notice, possibly the only option for improving team performance is to overclock.

This is more a problem than a solution, but in some cases it is worth spending a day improving your performance to touch the roof of the stable. Another example: many can move smoothly 2.0GHz to 3GHz and fraction without breaking a sweat, which means saving the price of a faster processor and new. Hey, you can even get cheaper to buy a more powerful fan.

In some cases, a good can cause the equipment to last a few months, and in the worst case you will know that anyway will have to upgrade your computer permanently. Well … at least get out of the question.

3. – When there are facilities

Lighter, add water. If you have to gut a processor and integrated sink-get that piece of copper above the core-or buy a new motherboard (I have had knowledge of these cases), I think it’s much better to spend those resources in an update.

Saying “facilities” to overclock basically means that you should not need more than your hands to set up the pieces. Many mid-range motherboards have basic options for overclocking, and there are many utilities on the Internet to do with video cards. Even today you can overclock without entering the BIOS, saving you time before making the changes permanent. But when things get complicated and you have to become an engineer and programmer in assembly soldering, better overclock pass by.

Beside the above, the vast majority of parts not allow overclock, and placed unstable when operating on the frequency of factory, they are probably not entirely made for clocking.

4. – When the temperature is acceptable

One thing to consider is the temperature overclocking. 5. – When you have some patience

Point fatal for some, no problem for others. Be patient when overclocking is the main pillar in improving the performance of your pieces, it is not easy or quick as many suppose, but to succeed, the pay can be very good.

Why so slow? Well, first think that this is about finding “ceilings” that are not written anywhere. After finding these roofs performance, another step is to find out why and fix are generated. Voltage may be missing, may be temperature, the lack of fine adjustments, or even poor quality of power supply. Hey, not everyone can overclock when the components are top notch and the source is emaciated.

Users who want to register your name on silicon and have 15 minutes of international fame, then do so. In the worst case you will know that failure and learn the tricks of the components. Here it all if you want to do a feat: dry ice, liquid nitrogen, two power supplies, four voltage regulators, and so on.

But be careful with the ends. As you’re squeezing each transistor involved, it is likely that the first attempts done by changing parts or burned straight. Here anything goes, but also mentally prepared for bad news such as potential bottlenecks or pieces that do not have a ceiling acceptable for a world record. In the above cases you just have to buy a new piece and try your luck, just ask those extreme overclockers that are in the Top 10.

Besides a lot of money involved in hardware and cooling, we must also invest in software to validate the record. For example, is a program to measure the performance of video cards, and to give validity to record a license is necessary.
