Foxconn admits the use of children for 14 years in its factories

For several years , has been involved in several scandals related to negligence and poor working conditions, being in a country whose economic model allows for very low salaries paid to employees, where in spite of that, thousands of people seek there, as this company would be “the least bad” of all.

Now we learn of another worrisome that the same company has confirmed: the use of to work in factories. Worse, in that area the legal minimum working age is 16, so the offense now involves children between 14 and 15 years old.

In Foxconn explained that this happened because of an error in a system used to employ people, which disrupt the schooling of children to create something called “boarding”, some of them mandatory in a program where they imposed production targets children, which to be achieved successfully, which resulted in the “student” was approved certain amount of academic credits required in their school.

These “internships” lasting three and a half months, contributing 2.7% of the total workforce of Foxconn, a company that employs 1.2 million people in China. Reports of certain institutions accused students were sent to the force to be part of Foxconn, earning USD $ 244 a month and having to work overtime to meet the goals that were imposed.

“(The program) allows students to gain relevant industrial experience, while earning the same compensation as our full-time workers. This program gives the opportunity to identify Foxconn participants to have excellent potential to be full-time employees, “the company said.
