About four months ago we told you about the new Fundamental Physics Award , an award whose special feature is that the theories of scientists winners need not be corroborated experimentally as the Nobel Prize, and was created by Yuri Milner, billionaire Russian and former Ph.D. candidate in theoretical physics, which he left in 1989 to focus on investing in technology companies.

However, now decided to release two special awards-$3 million each, the British physicist Stephen Hawking, and the seven scientists behind the CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research.

Hawking was honored for his discovery of Hawking radiation, a type of radiation generated by the event horizon of a black hole (something like its outer limits), and for his “profound contributions to quantum gravity and quantum aspects of universe in its infancy, ” the foundation said .

While the award is CERN scientists because their experiments with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the CMS and ATLAS (and whose best-known achievement is the discovery of the Higgs boson ), and will be distributed among the scientist who oversaw the construction of the LHC, and the six physicists who oversaw the two teams of scientists at CERN 3000.

Also made the announcement of the winners by Nobel Physics Frontiers 2013, which provides U.S. $300,000 to the winners and nominated automatically for five years to Fundamental Award, which will be delivered at CERN on 20 March 2013.
