Futurist Ray Kurzweil is the new Director of Engineering at Google
The eminent inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil try to discern what is coming in the next few years now from Google, where he took over as the new Director of Engineering. Among his inventions are the flatbed CCD scanner, the first text reading machine for the blind, the first music synthesizer capable of recreating a piano and other things. But Kurzweil goes far beyond his inventions, engaging in exploring how biological systems (like humans) are mixed with artificial intelligence in the future, impacting medicine, science, economics, politics, education and everything that we surrounds.
What will you do with Google? The truth is that the job description was not detailed, but it is likely that your work has to do with the laboratory Google X , where the company intends to create devices that will be used later, as cars are driving alone or famous Google Glass . In this laboratory there are about 100 projects addressing future technologies that are in development, where Kurzweil sure have something to contribute.
In making the announcement of his new job, Kurzweil said on its website that “in 1999, said that in about a decade would see technology as the vehicle that drives itself and mobile phones that could answer your questions, and people criticized these predictions as unrealistic. Fast forward a decade – Google has shown that cars driving alone, and people are actually asking questions of their Android phones. It’s easy to shrug as if these technologies had always been with us, but really we are in a remarkable track record of rapid innovation, and Google is at the forefront of much of this development. “
Will about the singularity , the hand of Google?
