Google+ has 500 million users and adds function to create “communities”
Google+ released some figures today, ensuring that over 500 million people have been “upgraded” to the social network. The company did not say how many of them actually use Google+, but noted that 235 million are “active in Google”, which means they have clicked on Google +1 buttons Play, used a Gmail hangout, written a tip on a map , or something else.
The company also unveiled a new service that allows you to create groups of people. Called “Google+ Communities”, is the competition for Facebook Groups. If you have an interest in something in particular, a fan club or are in a group of experts on a topic, Google will allow you to open a space for people to gather as similar interests.
Communities are open, but you can also create private groups for particular groups do not want their information public. The system allows you to find specific items in the group, or filter by topics or categories. You can add photos, create events, chat and organize Hangouts with members of the page. You can also share with the community specifically through any web +1 button.
