Google+ has 500 million users and adds function to create “communities”

Google+ released some figures today, ensuring that over 500 million people have been “upgraded” to the social network. The company did not say how many of them actually use Google+, but noted that 235 million are “active in Google”, which means they have clicked on Google +1 buttons Play, used a Gmail hangout, written a tip on a map , or something else.

The company also unveiled a new service that allows you to create groups of people. Called “Google+ Communities”, is the competition for Facebook Groups.
