GPU market share for x86
Jon Peddie Research (JPR) has released its latest analysis of the market share figure for the first three months of this year (Q1), an analysis which includes both the overall graphics market (GPUs and IGPs) as the market for dedicated GPUs desktops and laptops.
According to the analysis the overall graphics market dropped by 3.38% compared to sales during the same period (from January to March) last year. Among the manufacturers of GPUs / IGPs out VIA/S3 Graphics, which increased its market share by a staggering 150% over sales during the last three months of last year, a factor that may be due to the good reception of their platforms Nano and Eden, and SiS virtually disappeared from the list of market share.
Turning to the market for dedicated GPUs (not integrated) Nvidia maintains its leadership with a share of 61.9%, while AMD has 37.8%. Although it is noteworthy that as in the overall graphics market, sales of dedicated GPUs have fallen by 2% over the last three months of last year, and 16% over the same period last year figure indicates that the integrated graphics are still gaining ground apace with the dedicated GPU.
