The hard drive manufacturers are reduced: today announced it will buy for $ 186 million. The will take place in stages, where the first Seagate will acquire 64.5% of the shares of LaCie CEO of the firm, Phillipe Spruch, and then try to buy the shares that are missing in the coming months.

If all goes well, Seagate happen to own 95% of the shares of the company in six months. Spruch will then work on Seagate as head of consumer products.

Seagate had recently acquired the area of hard drives from Samsung for $ 1,400 million, while its rival Western Digital merged with Hitachi in March. Although the purchase of LaCie is less than either of these two, Seagate enables access to a brand that is well established among users, and is recognized for its innovative design.

The agreement still must be approved by regulators in the U.S. and Europe.
