New Apple patent details a hybrid input device
If we consider the mouse, the touchpad and trackball, each on their own, they all have their own drawbacks. For example, it requires more effort to move the cursor across a screen, with a Mouse touchpad.
Moreover, touch panels are very good in reproducing fine ranges of motion, which can not be easily carried out using a mouse.
That’s why Apple says in the patent that all conventional input devices, are lacking in monitoring large movements, such as the fine.
The peripheral that Apple has detailed in his patent shall contain a touch panel and a motion sensor, which is used to calculate the acceleration and speed and position data.
This data is collected to determine the output signal, which in effect will be reproduced on the screen with a cursor. The device will be able to intelligently determine what data, whether of movement or touch sensor, you need to use for the output process.
This patent was filed in 2012. As is the case with proprietary technologies, it is unknown if it will ever see the light.
