Now Samsung will manufacture Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC S4
An interesting move is that given today’s mobile handset market with Samsung coming to an agreement with qualcomm to manufacture platform S4 Snapdragon , although Samsung already has its own product (Exynos) and in fact, is a direct competitor.
It turns out that Qualcomm, like many companies, chip design and implementation, but does not have factories to manufacture the product, having to resort to other companies like TSMC for this work. Samsung does have the factories, and even though they also design, apparently the work accomplished with the snapdragon s4 is so good that they can not match it saw in the short term, so they decided to take it and build it in-house to speed up the production.
This is necessary given the high demand for S4 chips on the market, which in turn is driven by Samsung and the use of the soc in mobile phones Galaxy family, and remember that in addition to designing and manufacturing chips, also make mobile computers, washing machines and many more.
Why so much interest in the S4 Snapdragon? It happens that these are the first to be based on arm Cortex-A15 microarchitecture, while other products such as NVIDIA Tegra 3 and 4 Quad Exynos Samsung moves the Galaxy S III are based on Cortex-A9 past generation, with the synthetic tests indicating that a dual-core Cortex-A15 outperforms a Cortex-A9 quad core.
