Office applications will run within Word, Excel, SharePoint and others
Microsoft today announced the new Office , with an interesting feature that will allow developers to create applications that run on the programs of this Office suite. In some ways, resemble the extensions that can be added to a browser, but for improving the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other applications in the suite.
During today’s presentation, for example, was an application of Bing that recognizes when an address on an email in Outlook, and can see on the map directly from the mail system without having to open a browser window. The application is interactive, so you can navigate the map from the mail as well (not a snapshot).
This is not the only alternative. There are dictionaries, calendar systems, make a reservation at a restaurant and other alternatives. To get an app, go into a special tent, which apparently is not yet available. PJ Hough, Microsoft corporate vice president, also highlighted the possibility for companies to integrate their own applications (Internal Directory in the picture below) for use by employees.
It’s an interesting idea that could help give versatility to Office, depending on the creativity and interest of application developers.
