Only 8% of U.S. Internet users uses Twitter, Lady Gaga is the one that has more followers
Only 8% of “online adults” in the U.S. use Twitter, and although it sounds like little people, the figure has quadrupled in the last 18 months (from 2% to 8%), according to a report by consultancy Pew .
The “online adult” is defined as a person who uses the Internet and / or send emails at least occasionally. According to the report, 80% of American adults fall into this category.
According to the report, the increased use of smartphones may have influenced the rise of the figure, because the users of these devices “are particularly more likely to use Twitter.” One in five owners of a smartphone is a member of the Microblogging social network, the report said.
On the other hand, the social network reached a new record by Lady Gaga, who came to a record 25 million followers. The pop singer made the announcement via his Twitter while in Singapore, where he has been giving presentations .
Seven of the ten people with more followers on Twitter are pop singers: Justin Bieber followed (22.9 million), Katy Perry (20.4 millions), Rihanna (19.7 million), Britney Spears (17.2 million) , Shakira (16.2 million) and Taylor Swift (14.5 million).
Is the second time that Lady Gaga breaks records followers, being also the first to have reached 10, 15 and 20 million.
