Open source project intended for anyone to print a 3D functional weapon

Some time ago we saw the case of an assault rifle printed in 3D . The project was highly controversial because it implies: that almost anyone can produce a low-cost weapon. The matter is further complicated with the “Weapon Wiki Project”, mounted by a group called ” Distributed Defense “that is trying to raise USD $20,000 to launch a sale printed in 3D.

The group posted their project on crowdfunding site IndieGoGo, however, was closed by the organization for “unusual account activity” after collecting $2,000 USD.

The group intends to the weapon called RepRap printer that costs less than $1,000. Money from the fund will use to create the prototype, with a best mark Stratasys printer. Besides asking people to send their designs: the best win between $1,000 and $2,000 USD. If the design works and manage successfully print a pistol, the instructions will be converted to and made compatible with the RepRap, for anyone to use.

In addition to allowing anyone to have a gun – something that the United States can be very common, but it does not work like the rest of the world – weapons made of plastic may even represent a danger to those who use it for its lack of control.

“This project could change the way we think about gun control and consumption. How governments would behave if they had to operate assuming that any and every citizen has almost instant access to a gun through the internet? Let’s find out, “says the project site.
