Orbis OS: The operating system PlayStation 4
In recent months, Sony has revealed the specifications of your console PlayStation 4 (PS4), as well as some aspects of its internal functioning and graphics computing APIs that use games and Applications running on it .
But something that had not yet revealed Sony is the operating system that will manage all resources and console hardware that will run on various games, applications and Services developed for it, information that comes from ExtremeTech.
The operating system will be called PlayStation 4 Orbis OS (oddly name matches the name console code: Orbis), an operating system based on freebsd 9.0 modification (based in turn on BSD Unix), for which it speculation that it could facilitate developers which can carry PS4 games to Linux, since BSD can also run a large number of Linux applications.
Returning to Orbis OS, we assume that this operating system will be closely linked to the graphical API / GPGPU PSSL (PlayStation shader Language), in the same way that Windows is with the DirectX API.
SO far Sony has not confirmed this, but from VG Leaks have posted some screenshots of a platform for developers to look convincing PS4 .
