Panasonic will cut between 3 000 and 4 000 jobs at its headquarters in Japan
Bad news that we are reaching these days of technology companies and their cut of templates: If just a couple of days ago we were concerned about the fate of a 2 000 workers who could be layoffs by the Canadian RIM , now is the turn of Panasonic would be thinking of reducing between 3 000 and 4 000 jobs from their headquarters in Japan.
The restructuring plan would include early retirements and relocations subsidiaries: Panasonic has a total of about 100 000 employees in Japan, 7 000 of whom work at the headquarters of the company, so we are talking about a reduction of about 50 percent, as quoted by the Nikkei newspaper.
The reason? It could not be other than economic: Figures do not add up to the Japanese because, as we have here a few days ago, they had record losses of 812,800 million yen (USD $ 10,200 million) in the fiscal year that just closed.
Not the first time in Japan are forced to tighten their belts: From 2011 carried out a restructuring process that has included a plan to cut about 17,000 jobs at its global headquarters, while from March 2010 reduced about 17,650 jobs … that will cut clipping.
The information has yet to be confirmed by Panasonic, and if true, would begin negotiations with the unions in the coming months … No wonder, really, because by announcing their losses the company announced it would focus on restructuring of its business to return to profit in 2013.
