Rumor: Possible specifications of the AMD Radeon HD 8970 GPU “Curacao XT”

There are still several months for the debut of the GPUs HD 8000 Series “Sea Islands” based on the new graphics architecture (GCN 2.0 or GCN2), which according to the data we have come between October and December this year.

For some time rumors of the possible specifications of these new GPUs, which I must confess seem implausible, but given the very high rate of success of the rumors circulating in recent months, and taking advantage of new information has come from 4Chan, then publish them.

According to the filtered data, AMD made a curious graphic redesign of its architecture, from its classic dual graphics architectures engine: 2 units + 2 units raster ACE (Asynchronous Command Engine) + 2 tessellation units, with a new triple engine design, increasing the overall performance of the chip, which requires a complete reorganization of the Compute Units, which will be split evenly between the three engines.

With the above we have that the new Radeon “Curacao XT” would consist of a total of 2304 shader processors, grouped into 36 Compute Units (12 per engine) and accompanied by 144 texture units, 48 units and 3GB rendering GDDR5 memory with 384-bit bus running at 1625MHz (6500MHz effective).

With this information we can deduce that the GPU medium to high “Hainan” (radeon HD 8800 Series) would consist of a total of 1536 shader processors, grouped into 24 Compute Units (8 per engine) and accompanied by 96 texture units , 32 rendering units and 2GB of GDDR5 memory with 256-bit bus running at perhaps between 1625MHz and 1750MHz (from 6500MHz and 7000MHz effective).

Both GPUs would operate at frequencies near or above 1GHz.

Presumably XT will perform generally between 10 and 35% higher than the current Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition “Tahiti XT2″ although in games that make heavy use of tessellation performance could have at least 50% higher.

At the moment everything is in unconfirmed rumors, although if you ask me I bet a dual engine configuration consisting of 2560 shader processors, 160 texture units, 48 units of rendering and 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 memory running at frequencies near to 7000MHz effective … is wait.
