Samsung starts mass production of memory chips to 20nm

Samsung , the Korean giant, is pleased to announce the start of mass production of chips made with its new process, which will increase the memory capacity of many types of devices.

The new 20nm manufacturing process, will memory chips with capacities of (2-Gigabit or 256 Kilobytes) and (512KB), which will have an area 20% lower than current memory chips manufactured with the 30nm manufacturing process, Samsung.

The smaller size and greater of these new memory chips allow the construction of memory modules of higher capacity, because that can use more memory chips per module, the latter very useful in devices such as smartphones and other.

The increase in areal density is not the only advantage of the memory chips to 20nm, they also require less voltage to operate reliably, which will be exploited in the manufacture of modules LPDDR2.
