SoC NVIDIA Tegra 4 will come in January 2013
Initially promised Nvidia Tegra SoC launch its new 4 “Wayne” for this year , but the rumors about its postponement until 2013 ended up being confirmed by Nvidia itself , which also mentioned that the wait will be worth it, for double the performance Tegra 4 of Tegra 3 “Kal-El” .
The new soc Tegra 4, known by its code name Wayne, will consist of four core arm Cortex-A15, getting on par with rival products based on this architecture as Apple A6, S4 series Qualcomm Snapdragon, Samsung Exynos 5 and Texas Instruments OMAP 5, achieving nearly double the performance of Tegra 3, thanks to improved cycle performance by Cortex-A15, which almost doubles the Cortex-A9 (Tegra 3 is based on Cortex-A9).
wayne will also have a new, more modern graphics architecture support GPU accelerated applications (GPGPU), a welcome improvement over the IGP-ULP GeForce (based on the old graphics architecture used in the GeForce CineFX FX/6/7 Series) , and also bring improved graphics performance and compatibility with modern graphics APIs like DirectX 10 (and maybe even DirectX 11).
Nvidia confirms that its new Tegra SoC 4 will be presented at CES 2013, which will be held in January next year, in a subsequent event (Mobile World Congress – February 2013) show the first devices based on the new SoC.
According to rumors circulating in the industry, Tegra 4 will perform better than the Apple SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon A6/A6X and S4 (Krait) in some test, although this can not be confirmed until the first devices based on it are available.
