Temporarily disables Microsoft Skype password reset by security flaw

A new flaw in was found a few months ago by Russian hackers, which describes a relatively simple procedure that would allow anyone to change the of an account and gain control over it.

The method, which was confirmed by the site The Next Web – would exploit a vulnerability where you only need to know the username and the email address associated with your Skype account in order to occupy it to create a new account, and subsequently request a security token for forgotten password.

Given this failure, Skype disabled the ability to recover the password from their website. In a statement, the company stated that “we have reports of a new security flaw. W hile still investigating, c omo precaution, we have temporarily disabled resetting passwords. We apologize for the inconvenience but the safety and user experience is our first priority.
