The secret to increasing the productivity of your work environment is noise

A team of scientists from the University of Illinois conducted a study that showed through five experiments to contrast it with a quieter environment, a moderate level of encourages in creative tasks and increases the chances of buying products and services.

Most previous scientific studies were inconclusive regarding the relationship between creativity and environmental noise. Now, scholars with their study determined that level ‘moderate’ round noise around 70 dB, equivalent to someone by vacuuming or have the radio or TV on as background noise.

However, when the noise begins to exceed 85 dB begins to damage the creative process by reducing the processing capabilities of information.

In short, while a moderate level of noise present distractions fast enough to encourage information-processing leading to greater creativity, a high level of ambient noise is too distracting, reducing the speed to process information and therefore creativity.
