This is the first photo uploaded to the Internet 20 years ago
What have in common the God particle which so much has been said in recent weeks with the first photo uploaded to the internet? Both milestones occurred in the same place: The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) .
Even, it is not coincidence that the initials of the unknown band of the nineties “Les Horribles Cernettes” are LHC , a group that had the honor of being part of the first picture to appear on the Internet and July 18 for 20 years.
In the days when internet was just a sea of words with nothing to do but read
porn texts and texts, and used by professionals and scientists, the father of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee , met at CERN Silvano De Gennaro developer, currently head of the laboratory media, and who decided to share a new experiment I wanted to test: upload an image to the web.
In addition to his degree in physics, De Genaro held the position of representative of the band Les Horribles Cernettes, not because he was interested in show business but because his girlfriend (and now wife) along with several CERN secretaries were the group members.
To keep track of their professions, Les Horribles Cernettes sang songs with humorous lyrics, but related to physics, composing lyrics Michele De Genaro’s girlfriend while he spent sleepless nights during the watches of her boyfriend.
When Berners-Lee De Genaro invited his experiment, his first thought was to offer the physical image of the set of his girlfriend, which after some tinkering with the first version of Photoshop, finished as the image illustrating this post .
When De Genaro asked “what do you want to put the Cernettes there?”, Berners-Lee responded simply “be fun”.
Now, 20 years later, we could not even imagine www without multimedia content, such as sailing these pioneers.
