TSMC believes in America for expansion
According to the Taipei Times report, the company confirmed rumors of expansion and is currently exploring the possibilities of reaching the land of Uncle Sam. The place would be in the state of New York, in a major effort to expand its reach and compete in a competitive segment that has fed Globalfoundries or UMC as its main rivals.
TSMC expects to increase spending on research and development by about 17%, rising from 1370 to 1600 million by 2013. Currently, the company already has a manufacturing plant in the U.S., but it is very small and does not have the technology to make modern chips. In this regard, a new sabrir to keep up with current market standards is almost a necessity.
On the other hand, while they are hearing voices saying that Apple wants part of the necessary parts for their products come directly from the same country at the same all this seems to fit in quite convenient although TSMC executives say that everything is coincidence. Time will tell, eventually.chip factory, expansion, plant, TSMC, U.S.
