Windows 8 reaches stage RTM

Windows 8 reaches stage RTM

8 reached its final stage before the version that will be released on October 26, reaching a Release to Manufacturing (RTM). This means that will begin distributing software between computer manufacturers so they can use in their future products.

This software release will have no more changes until it is released the first service pack. New equipment to go on sale after October 26 will come with this release, and that day will be available the option to upgrade existing equipment for $39.99.

Those who purchase a PC with Windows 7 as of today, will upgrade to Pro for $14.99.

For developers there are still some steps to fulfill: August 15, will open access to the final version of Windows 8 through MSDN subscriptions, and IT professionals can enter through TechNet.

The next day, those who subscribe to Microsoft Software Assurance be given early access to Windows 8 Enterprise, for installation in offices.
