Woz does not have cable broadband, mobile internet use only
Visiting Australia, co-founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak, admitted that he has contracted broadband in his home in Los Gatos, California. “I, Steve Wozniak, I have no broadband in my house,” he told a surprised audience.
“Broadband is a monopoly in my town – which means you can get it from a cable company, but I have no cable. There are 50 companies that want to sell DSL but all pass through Horizon (the local telephone company) and I have one of the worst Horizons in the country, so I can not install broadband in my house, “he said.
Wozniak said that wireless networks were more expensive in remote areas. “I think in remote areas, often a good solution is wireless economically,” he said. Woz usually carry three mobile phones at the same time, so mobile broadband is quite natural for him.
As the speeds of mobile broadband have improved, more people have chosen to use – especially in countries where it is running 4G LTE, which provides very competitive rates. Still, there are many places where 3G is the only option because the fixed broadband is simply not arrive.
