Imperdible: 84 million stars in one gigapixel photo of 9
The European Southern Observatory (ESO) released a mega-picture X 81,500 108,200 pixels (total, nearly 9,000 million pixels) that shows more than 84 million Stars listed by an international team of astronomers, and are located in the area center of the Milky Way.
The image was captured by the VISTA infrared telescope, located at the Paranal Observatory in Chile. The image can navigate to venture into the stars that are part of our galaxy.
Most spiral galaxies, like the Milky Way, have a large concentration of old stars surrounding the center. Understanding the formation and evolution of the Milky Way’s core is vital to understanding the galaxy.
